Description of the project:
Firstly, I write something about the history of the theatre in Bremen. I want to find out
when the first theatre in Bremen was built and how it has developed since then. Secondly,
I write about the 'Bremer Shakespeare Company' in particular. Finally, I write about my
own experiences of theatres in Bremen.
Type of action:
I searched for materials in the library where I found a book which deals with the history
of the theatre in Bremen for about 200 years. Then, my teacher found information about the
'Bremer Shakespeare Company' in the Internet and he gave them to me.
Target group:
All students and people who are interested in theatre in general and who are
interested in the theatre in Bremen in particular.
Aims of the project and the results expected:
The overall aims of the project are as follows:
1. to find out something about the history
2. how the theatre has developed in Bremen
3. how the stage- performances are presented to the audience
4. how the stage set look like
5. in which way the stage-performances are shown
6. what makes the 'Bremer Shakespeare Company' special
7. what do I expect from a performance, when I go into the theatre
Detailled description of the project:
* Stage 1: 1 went into the library because I hoped to find information about
the theatre in Bremen. I found a book which is called '200 Jahre Theater in Bremen'. I
read the book and then I summarized the information. With these information I wrote a text
about the history of the theatre. It begins in 1792 and it ends in the present. In this
text it is reported for example about financial problems, problems with the senate or
problems at the time of the National Socialism.
* Stage 2: The second text of my lecture deals about the 'Bremer Shakespeare Company'. It gives a short introduction why the actors prefer to play Shakespeare and what makes the theatre so different to other ones.
* Stage 3: In the last text, I write about my own experiences with the the theatre in Bremen. I report about performances I saw in the theatre. Firstly, I summarize the plays as far as Iremember and then I inform you about my impressions. At last, I write about my ideas of a stage- play.
* Stage 4: In the appendix of my lecture, you will find some photos. The first three photos show you the first theatres in Bremen: the 'Tivolitheater an der Weide', the 'Stadttheater am Wall' and the 'Schauspielhaus'. The other two photographes show you the 'Theater am Goetheplatz' and the entrance of the 'Bremer Shakespeare Company' of today.
Evaluation:
Taking all into consideration, I think that I achieved everything I wanted. At the
beginning, I wanted to compare the 'Bremer Shakespeare Company' with the 'Globe Theatre'
in London but this did not work because I did not get information of the 'Globe'. But all
in all, I think that I have both in my lecture: the history and my personal experiences
with the theatre in Bremen.
